Breath of Grains
Breath of Grains is a generative interactive project using GANs and particle systems to explores how the microscopic structures of ice cores, shaped across deep geological time, can be reanimated through AI to create embodied experiences of non-human temporalities.

Perception – Viewers see the floating particle fabric, sensing its breathing-like flow. This draws them into a non-human rhythm and a shifting field.
Interaction – Hand movements create local ripples; a clenched fist pulls particles together, heightening the sense of temporal flow and encouraging embodied engagement.
Experience – Through repeated engagement, viewers feel both surrounded by and subtly shaping the particles. A symbiosis emerges between humans, particles, motion, and time, with perception continually reshaped by the flow.
Starting from microscopic images of ice core grains, the project employs StyleGAN to generate dynamic interpolated videos, which are then particleized. Through fluid dynamics and hand gesture interaction, the imagery transforms into a tactile, intervenable fabric of time.
Breath of Grains invites viewers to ripple through frozen histories, resonating with non-human rhythms and re-sensing the breath of matter and the flow of memory.
